On Thursday, January 30, 2025, TotalEnergies EP PNG Limited (TotalEnergies) as Operator of the Papua LNG project, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gulf Christian Services Agency (Kapuna), re-affirming the Project’s commitment to supporting stakeholder partnerships, to address health conditions in the Project area communities.
The Project recognises Kapuna along with the Gulf Provincial Health Authority (GPHA) as essential in providing health care services to the people of Gulf Province, with Kapuna Rural Hospital serving a catchment area of 30,000 people in the Baimuru LLG, as well as the eastern regions of Kikori and Ihu LLG.
TotalEnergies has been logistically supporting Kapuna since 2016. The signing of the MoU today between the GPHA and TotalEnergies, ensures continued and vital care is delivered to the communities, even those dwelling in the most remote of locations.
Present to witness the signing was GPHA Chairman Augustine Mano, GPHA CEO Maluo Magaru, Gulf Christian Services Agency Executive Chairman Adam Jairus, representatives from the Project operator and National Department of Health (NDOH) Acting Deputy Secretary for National Health Standards and Compliance Dr Dora Lenturut Katal, who was present to formally handover the Level 4 Health Certificate for Kapuna Rural Hospital.
Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environment Director for TotalEnergies Marie-Alix Dognin, highlighted the company’s long-standing relationship with Kapuna since the first MoU was signed in 2016. This partnership has led to collaborations with State Agencies such as the National Volunteer Service, ensuring a volunteer Community Health Worker in Wabo and Poroi 2. She also mentioned the successful AidOcean mission between Kapuna and GPHA, facilitated by the Project operator in 2024, where over 2,600 patients from 22 communities along the Purari, were treated, emphasizing the role of collaborative partnerships in enhancing service delivery.
“Through our partnership with Kapuna, we have worked together to enhance their capacity and now with SAGO Network, we are supporting the implementation of a WASH program in targeted villages in the PRL-15 areas,” she said.
