Papua LNG Proudly Supports the Toare Mask Festival 2026

Toare Village, Gulf Province, Monday, August 3 2026 - TotalEnergies EP PNG Limited (TotalEnergies), operator of the Papua LNG Project, proudly supported the vibrant Gulf Mask Festival 2026, held from 31^st July to 1^st August in Toare Village, Gulf Province.

Bringing together 78 cultural groups, the festival showcased the richness and diversity of Gulf traditions through traditional dances, songs, ceremonies and mask performances. As a UNESCO recognized cultural event in Papua New Guinea, the festival celebrates the unique heritage of Gulf communities while helping to preserve and promote traditional knowledge for future generations.

As a partner of the festival since 2023, TotalEnergies continues to support initiatives that strengthen cultural preservation and contribute to the social development of Gulf Province. 

Speaking during the official opening ceremony, Arnaud Berthet, Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP PNG Limited, reaffirmed the company's commitment to safeguarding local heritage:

"The Toare Gulf Mask Festival is more than a cultural celebration. It is a testament to the identity, traditions and cultural knowledge of Gulf communities. TotalEnergies is proud to support an event that helps preserve this unique heritage and share it with future generations."

The ceremony brought together Hon. Thomas Opa, Minister for Finance and Member for Kerema, and Erika Hasznos, EU Ambassador to Papua New Guinea. TotalEnergies also acknowledged the collaboration between the Gulf Provincial Government, UNESCO, the National Cultural Commission, the Tourism Promotion Authority, traditional leaders and local communities, whose collective efforts continue to strengthen the preservation and promotion of Gulf Province's cultural heritage.

Through its support for the Toare Gulf Mask Festival and other community initiatives, the Papua LNG Project remains committed to building lasting partnerships with local communities and contributing positively to the sustainable development of Gulf Province. Respect for cultural heritage remains a key pillar of the Project's sustainability approach.
