Family and Sexual Violence (FSV) Forum

As a corporate subscriber to the Bel Isi initiative and an official sponsor, the Project was invited to attend and participate in the 2024 Family and Sexual Violence Forum, highlighting the rise of Sorcery Accusation Related Violence (SARV). Security Coordinator Mildred Nigi spoke on behalf of the Project operator, sharing her experiences in the field as a staunch advocate and the company’s own initiatives to combat FSV.

Empowering Women Through Art

From May 20 to May 27, 2024, Papua LNG facilitated the participation of over 50 women from the villages of Wabo and Ura, in an art project to empower and cultivate their artistic abilities.

Led by Papua LNG Independent Advisory Panel member and senior anthropologist Dr Nicolas Garnier, the project provided an avenue for women to express themselves creatively, some of whom admitted have never held a pen before.

CIVIL SOCIETY AND NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS ENGAGEMENTS SESSION (CSNES)

The purpose of the engagements with the Civil Society and NGO sector in PNG to foster open and constructive discussions amongst the participants. This helps the Project, provide up-to date information and to gather civil society feedback to better sustainability for the Project.

There have been six Civil Society and NGO forums since 2023. Participants have ranged from Papua LNG partners such as SAGO Network and NVS to Caritas PNG, Oilmin, Institute of National Affairs, Marie Stopes, Child Fund, PNG CELCOR and Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area to name a few.

Two forums were organised in 2024 on March 15 and November 28. A field site visit was organized on February 6, during which participants could observe the logistics base and the ongoing preparatory works.

They were encouraged, in the full spirt of transparency to engage in open dialogue with the Project representatives present. Then proceeded forum number 4, where new participants were provided Project updates, listened to feedback from the field trip to site and discussing reflections and feedback of the 2023 activities.

IDEPENDENT ADVISORY PANEL

The aim of the panel is to foster open discussions among the participants and to get recommendations and feedback from the panellists. Aimed at helping to develop Papua LNG with the best standards in areas such as biodiversity, human rights, social development and sustainability. The IAP panellists have been selected for their high level of expertise in the domains of climate, biodiversity, human development and community work.

e structure of the IAP meetings has changed over time, with a two-fold session made up of a two-day long field trip over the Project area, followed by a two-day plenary session, where open discussions are fostered.

At the end of each session, the panelists are requested to formulate recommendations and share their preliminary feedback with TotalEnergies.
