Civil Society and Institutional Dialogue

Engaging with civil society organizations, public institutions and community representatives is an integral part of Papua LNG’s sustainable development approach. Open dialogue helps ensure that stakeholders remain informed about project developments while providing opportunities to share feedback, raise concerns and identify areas for collaboration.

Papua LNG maintains several structured forums that bring together representatives from communities, civil society organizations and government institutions. These platforms promote transparency, encourage constructive discussions and help strengthen coordination between the project and its stakeholders.

Civil Society and NGO Engagement Sessions

The Civil Society and NGO Engagement Sessions provide a platform for dialogue between the project and civil society organizations in Papua New Guinea. These forums aim to foster open and constructive discussions while sharing up-to-date information about the project and gathering feedback that can help strengthen its sustainability approach.

Since 2023, nine of these forums have been organized, bringing together a wide range of participants. These include Papua LNG partners such as the SAGO Network and the National Volunteer Service, as well as organizations such as Caritas PNG, the Institute of National Affairs, Marie Stopes PNG, ChildFund, PNG CELCOR, Oilmin and representatives from environmental organizations including the Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area.

Gulf Provincial Working Group

The Gulf Provincial Working Group was established in 2016 as a collaborative forum bringing together representatives from the Gulf Provincial Administration and Local Level Governments.

The group provides a space for coordination and dialogue between the project and provincial authorities. Discussions typically focus on stakeholder engagement activities, community development initiatives and updates on ongoing or planned projects within the province.

Lida Kibung

The Lida Kibung meetings are part of Papua LNG’s community engagement framework and provide a platform for direct dialogue with community leaders from the Project Area of Influence.

These meetings bring together representatives from PRL-15 communities, clans, youth groups, women’s representatives, churches and ward leaders. Participants are encouraged to discuss their concerns, expectations and perspectives on project activities, including environmental surveys, social programs and community development initiatives.

Lida Kibung meetings are held on a rotational basis in different communities to ensure broad participation.

Institutional coordination

Beyond community engagement, Papua LNG works closely with government institutions, civil society organizations and development partners to ensure coordination on key social and environmental topics.

These partnerships help align project activities with national priorities and local development initiatives, while creating opportunities for collaboration on programs related to health, education, environmental protection and community development.

Through these dialogue platforms and partnerships, Papua LNG seeks to maintain transparent communication, strengthen relationships with stakeholders and support responsible project development in Papua New Guinea.
